I don't really know when my period exactly started because it was a little messed up this month. But, it was either July 2nd or July 7th. Could I have been ovulating on June 12th?

If July 2nd is your Menses, the ovum is released from the ovary on 5th- 10th day which travels through fallopian tube and get installed in Uterus, say around 12-16th July in your case.It remains there for fertilization for next 10-14 days and then get discarded in the form of menstrual cycles.
The release and menstrual cycle(MC) varies in females, hence doctor advice is always appropriate.
Keep in mind, 5 days before and 5 days later of MC is safe for coitus. But don't rely on this, count as per your body changes.Always use better choice for safe sex. If looking for baby then go all out and enjoy, wish you all success.
