It is not acceptable to head-butt an oponent. It just isn't sportsmanlike. Italy won. That's it.

Anry, wake up. There's a difference between what Materazzi allegedly said and what Zidane actually did.

Sure he's good, but he is also a thug. Trash talking takes place in ALL sports. He should not be above whatever was said to him. (if it even was said) Imagine the NBA without the trash talk. If anyone tried his behavior in this country he would be killed...probably by his own teammates.

"According to newest Fifa regulations of March 2006, if players or officials of a team act discriminating according to Articel 55 Part 1 and/or 2, in games without points such team will be disqualified, in games with points such team automatically looses 3 points. Discriminating words/acts can be related to race, religion, language or heritage."

Its cleary stated that racist crooks cannot be champions.
Not a question of excusing Zidane.

there are many reasons:
1) As so many have pointed out, the ref saw the replay!
2) Marco said something bad enough (I don't believe Italians are bad enough to call Zidane "terorrist", as some say but it was bad enough) for Zidane to do such a thing.
3) Zidane was a clean player till date. There wasn't a mark on him. He was great and such a cool guy! (I mean cool-tempered)

Italy shouldn't have won. Or more like, Zidane shouldn't have been red carded. He should have been allowed to play and France would have won the cup for sure.

What he did was a sending off offence. End of story on that. But FIFA should question what was said to him for him to react that way? If someone made very hurtful remarks to me during a game of football I might react in much the same way. But it does depend on the nature of the verbal abuse. If they just called me a wanker or something I would ignore it, but if they said; For example, "Your mother is a hoare" That's another kettle of fish.
