I would not leave the building without my dog in my arms!

I think it would really trouble me, but I don't think anyone should feel guilty about that. Fire fighters will tell you that it is very unwise to try to save pets that run from you or that won't follow you. The best think to do is leave the door open when you leave, then call the fire department and let the experts rescue your pet. There have been plenty of people perish in fires because they tried to play firefighter and save their pets themselves; not smart! These kinds of things happen some times, and it's really not any-body's fault. I wouldn't feel guilty, I would just allow myself to mourn and move on with life the best I could.

Definitely, I'd feel guilty and selfish if I ran out of the house and then thought about my pet later. If I did everything I could to get my pet out then I'd just be depressed but necessarily guilty.

This happened to me. A stray puppy I rescued, who would not let me touch her, woke me by jumping on the bed and barking. I was so disoriented, I did not get her out. You always say what you will do in a fire, but when it comes to it, you freak. I watched my cat butt her head against the kitchen window as flames licked behind her, and it was as if I was watching in slow motion. I tried screaming for help but my voice would not work. I felt nothing but shock, not what I normally would feel when seeing my pet about to die. Fortunately the heat broke the window and she did escape, but the pup died os smoke inhalation underneath my bed. Yes, I felt guilty, but I was not in my right mind. I think the pup was an angel sent by God to save me, since I had only had her two days.

yeah I would feel a little guilty if my pet didn't make it. But then again I'd remember that it cared about me enough to help me get out instead of saving itself and letting me find out myself when it's too late. I know it would be hard to think of it that way considering that my pet lost its life saving me but I would remember that it loved me and died helping somebody it loved.

Uh... YEAH! I don't know how i'd get all my pets out, but i don't think I could leave without them, I know I'd do everything to get them out. If I failed, I'd be looking at many years of therapy!
