I think heartbreak or early childhood trauma. It does toughen some people up, but it creates a phobia in others. People who are shielded from all bad things also tend to be sensitive. And some people are just very, very nice. They don't like to see others cry or others get hurt. Those are the people trying to make the earth a better place. It can also be an imbalance of hormones, AKA PMSing. So there are a few possibilites. Choose your favorite. :)

The other answers are good. There is another possibility though. You could have a chemical imbalance. I have one which is being treated and now things don't get to me so much--I can be more objective. If you are depressed, ask your doctor to try you on a selective Seritonin uptake inhibitor. It can make a world of difference. Also try psychotherapy.

I was raised by a very sensitive mother. She grew up shy and meek, and everyone ran over her, so when she got older, she felt she had to stand up for herself, but that can sometimes hurt others. So she raised me the same way, to always recognize when someone is trying to hurt u with words and deed, but now I'm overly sensitive and paranoid. Not blaming her, because I am an adult and need to think for myself, but that's where it started.

I don't know...I'm sensitive to other people feelings...Not so much my own...I'm not easily offended. But I feel horrible if I think that I have offended someone else. I apologize quickly if I do.

I am sensitive because I have always had problems with making friends, and still sometimes do.

A few people can be "too" sensitive if they have lived difficult experiences in their life, as a child, or even in adulthood.

They think everyone is looking at them or talking about them and take everything personally when it most likely has nothing to do with them. Why are they like this? Got me. Paranoia? Upbringing?
