Well, if you are talking about musical talent, Pearl Jam is without a doubt Stone Gossard and Mike McCready are better guitar players than Kurt Cobain, hands down. Both bands have/had great lyrics. I've never seen either band in concert, so I can't comment on that. I like Nirvana slightly better, but I think Pearl Jam is made up of more talented musicians.

By the way, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were already getting radio play when "Nevermind" came out, so it would be incorrect to say that the other Seattle bands wouldn't have been discovered if it weren't for Nirvana. The person who said that probably wasn't even born then, so he wouldn't know. Also, Nirvana wouldn't have gone anywhere if they didn't have Dave Grohl, or if Butch Vig hadn't produced "Nevermind." "Bleach" wasn't really that good, and is only popular with hardcore fans.

Nirvana had the more experimental albums, while Pearl Jam stayed the same sound through most of their early albums. I would say Nirvana was more talented during their time they made music, but you never know what kind of music they would still be making today. Like Sublime, bands that might not have ever reached their full potential.

I say Pearl Jam but its hard to say given Nirvana was only around for a few years. You never know where they would be today...the only way to compare is to compare their first albums. In my opinion, its Pearl Jam all the way.

Pearl Jam.
I was never a big fan of Kurt. Nobody really cared until he killed himself. Personally, I think all of Nirvana's songs sound the same.

Both amazing bands. 90s grunge rocks. I used to like Nirvana more, than I liked Pearl Jam more and now I just love them both b/c they both kick @ss so why not love them both? Pearl Jam's new album is awesome. World Wide Suicide. Eddie Rocks and so does Kurt.
