Monkey says one, Thug says another... I'm sorry but u people have no idea what u r talking about!! The thug on that pitch was Matterazzi. Zidane's actions were one of emotion, Matterazzi CHOSE his words. Words are powerful, if they were not we would not have wars! Zidane is a true ambassador of the game and his name will live on, Matterazzi on the other hand will thankfully fade away over time. For example how many ordinary people on the street can name players from the 82 World cup, maybe Paolo Rossi, Rumennige, Socrates, yeah theres a couple but there were HUNDREDS of players all gone into the history books and only with the Internet and someone who gives a damn will find them. So shall end Matterazzi.
I am neither Italian or French and do not support either but i was saddened to see a great man fall like Zidane did on 9th July2006. His action was out of order but emotion, not logic won the day!!

Well said Gary S. I think it was a "polite headbutt" if there is such a thing. Anyone could tell you to inflict a serious injury he could have done lots more. Also i wouldnt like Matterazzi to back me up in a pub fight if he fell that easy.
I spose not but does anyone here ever see any GAA action from Ireland??? Last week a Wexford player jumped into the air to catch a ball, the player jumping with him fell to the floor and the wexford player landed quite intentionally with his studs into the back of the other players head. A severe ouch to those who saw it. Ref missed it though and even though it was replayed 3 times on the big screen he couldnt send him off.
Fair play to the "wounded player" though he was up and played on and got on with it 30 seconds later, just as it should be.

10 out of 10 because he aimed at a place that wouldn't really cause severe injury or damage, because the chest is well protected unlike the face. But the way it was executed was hilarious and Materazzi got what he deserved! People like Materazzi deserve all the bad fortune they get because there is no reason to disrespect one of the footballing greats and take it to a personal, family level!

2 - for optimum damage a head butt needs to be directed at the head not the chest - anyway what was the cheese eating, wine drinking, surrender monkey thinking of? He must have known that his actions would have been caught on the world arena. Dumb *ss.
