Travelling signal
This signal might sneak into the top 10 of dance movements.
Watch those arms spin round. All it needs is a tune from the 1970s.
So make sure your dribbling is OK or the ref's arms will get into action.

The travelling rule says you have to be holding the ball to travel — you must have control. You not only give up personal control but team control as well when you make a legitimate attempt for goal (no matter how poorly executed).

Jason Nix asked: If a player is dribbling and falls down, but maintains his dribble throughout, is this travelling? If a player is on the court flat on his back, sits up and begins to dribble, may he stand up while dribbling?

ON-GOING AND IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK - Occasional or partial feedback is not effective. Each time a player travels, for example, he/she should be made aware of travelling.

We prefer to have the players learn one technique well so they are not tentative in their execution or turn the ball over with travelling violations.
We run an open post offense that is designed to create driving/scoring opportunities into the lane.

Four old men go golfing. One goes off to pay the green fees. The other three start discussing their sons. The first man says my son is a successful man. He got his first job as a carpenter and now builds mansions for rich people. He is so wealthy that he gave his good friend a brand new house as a birthday present. The second man said his son is even more successful. He began as a used car salesman. Now he owns three sports car dealerships. He is so successful, he gave his friend an Aston Martin and a Ferrari. The third man said his son is the most successful of all. He didn't go to college but entered the stock market right away. He is now a billionaire. He got so rich, he gave his friend a multi-million dollar stock portfolio. The fourth man comes back and they get ready to tee off. The first three men smirk and say they have been discussing whose son is the most successful. The fourth man says he is very disappointed in his son: he had just learned he has been a hairdresser for fifteen years and he is gay. But he must be good at what he does because his last three boyfriends have given him a new house, two new cars, and a stock portfolio.

When a basketball player gains control of the ball they are allowed to move one of their feet while they hold the ball. tHe one they left on the floor is now defined as their pivot foot. When they now commence a dribble, the ball must leave their hand before the pivot foot leaves the floor, otherwise, traveling will be called. In my experience, smooth-moving little guards can often get away with a good bit of traveling on their dribble starts, whereas the taller player is p[enalized even sometimes when his footwork was technically legal. It is, as always, in the eyes of the official, and they are apt to be subjective.

In basketball, you are allowed 2 steps with the ball. If you exceed this, a travel will be called. Also, if you have already committed to a pivot, and step with your "Pivot Foot" you may then not step with the other. That is also a travel.
