You probably let Spyware in, and have way to much just starting up at startup.

First, go to http://www.download.com and get this:

Ad-aware
Spybot Search & Destroy

Then, go to RUN in your START menu and type MSCONFIG. Turn off just about everything under the STARTUP section, except your Anti-virus software.

Then your computer will be optimized a bit better.

Well, your computer at home probably has more programs than the ones at the library. At my local library, there's only a few basic programs. Plus, they also removed the floppy disc and CD ROM drives, so that people couldn't save anything on the computers.

You could do a Disk Defragmentation, which will free up some space on your computer (Under Accessories, System Tools). You could also delete some of the games that you don't play anymore, or anything else you may not use.

your computer isnt the only thing that makes the internet fast. Your Internet provider is what makes your pages apear quicker, and downloads faster. Like DSL Or Cable it the fastest you can get. If your on dialup theres not alot you can do to speed it up. So the best thing you can do to get a faster internet is to get DSL or Cable. The libraries are typically on a T1 connection, which is very expensive and usually only provided for businesses. Check out AT&T or SBC there about $17.00 a month for new subsribers for 1 year. Good luck

They have a dedicated T1 line with a more powerful server. NOTHING gets saved to it on a regular basis. The software installed is minimal. There are many reasons, but basically schools and libraries have the MOST EXCELLENT connections. SOME libraries serve also as ISP's: Internet Service Providers. You'd be a subscriber and your web connection, given that you remain having plenty of memory, would be just as fast as theirs. But if yours was as fast as their's you wouldn't come to the library and we'd miss seeing your lovely face.

They have a T1 line, which has more bandwidth than any of us can afford for home use. Processor speed and ram have nothing to do with connection speed.

For your home, download CCleaner and Windows Defender to get rid of temp files and spyware. These are free programs!

Deleting programs on your computer has nothing to do with connection speed. The only things that would slow down your internet performance from a fast connection would be spyware or virus programs designed to upload/download info to their home servers once they recognize that a port has been opened.

Don't worry about deleting programs that you don't use, this doesn't affect it.

Use broadbrand connect.
Keep an anti virus and adware software and run it once a week to make sure there is nothing laggin your pc.

Also when you go to different websites your pc automatically downloads things off of the sites. These things go to something called a Temporary internet folder. This causes your pc to lag.
To get there you go into your start menu and click on run.
Another box should pop up... time this %temp% in the box and press enter. Your Temp file should pop up. erase everything in it.
You should only have to do this once a month.

It could be several things. Have you done a disk cleanup lately? Have you done a defragmentation on it lately? Also, the library computers are limited (by the people who keep them up) on what they can download/upload and store. Yours at home, however, will most likely be on the default settings, which lets a lot of crap in. Also, are they on DSL or Cable? What about you? If you're on dial up, it's going to be super slow, no matter how fast your puter is.

They probably have a really fast internet and they are running fairly simple programs on the computer. If you want to make your computer faster you can get a better video card, more ram, and make sure you have antivirus and ad-aware pop-up protection. Viruses can slow your computer down a lot.

Have you defragmented it. I went to a computer camp and our instructor showed us how saving items works when you have saved it before. The old bit of information before you added information is still on your computer until you defragment it. So you have on your hard drive the document before you saved it and after when you defragment it it combines so there is only one bit of information instead of scattered pieces. That make a big difference. Think about it. if the words in the dictionary weren't put in abc order wouldn't it take forever to find them?
Second besure you under stand How much space you have on your computer. third DO YOU HAVE MUSIC AND PICS ON YOUR COMPUTER? Major factor on the speed!!!!

I live 9 miles out of town...and have the slowest internet in the world...I've had all different speeds depending on where I lived. I can't even get my cell phone to pick up calls out here...I think that has a lot to do with the speed..not your computer itself
