A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his business for a job. He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.

The Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republican's pocket and got out twenty dollars. He kept 15 for administrative fees and gave the homeless person five.

HOLY SMOKES - It's looks like this story has some truth!!!!!

LIBS don't help out their fellow citizens by giving to charity.

The Dem leaders sure dont find a shortage of suckers to believe in them, many of them being gullible college kids. But why is the media and hollywood so gullible? I dont understand it, unless they just hate America? I know many of them are Socialist in heart, but they made their fortunes here. Why would they want to risk losing it all to the state if America was ever to become Communist?

Yeah, I read the same article in Forbes as the guy above. According to the study provided by Forbes, the source you used provided a study with methodological flaws. Your study is provided by the Catalogue for Philanthropy which is inherently biased against high-income states like Massachusetts and Connecticut.

The more accurate study stated that these are the top 10 most charitable states:

1) Utah (red)
2) Maryland (blue)
3) New York (blue)
4) Connecticut (blue)
5) California (blue)
6) Hawaii (blue)
7) New Jersey (blue)
8) Georgia (red)
9) South Carolina (red)
10) North Carolina (red)

Again, please check multiple sources before stating things as fact. Check the methods used for producing information. If you are going to insult someone, do it accurately. You will never be able to prove that all liberals are horrible citizens, simply because it's not the truth.

That said, I agree with one of the comments above. I also believe donating to charity isn't always the best way to utilize your time or money, although I do support some local charities. I also volunteer several hours a week at a nursing home and spend time on weekends reading to children who have terminal illnesses. In August, you can find me at a camp working with victims of MS. Yeah, I'm a horrible citizen.

First of all, giving money directly to homeless people does not solve their problems. The same republican you mention who gives $20 to the homeless person was just voting on legislation to slash welfare benefits to needy people earlier that same day.

There is a reason why people are homeless. If they had learned to appropriately manage and earn money, they would probably not be in the situation they are in. This may not be the story for all homeless people, but the point is that nobody has ever had their problems solved by charity alone. I'm willing to give somebody food or money in exchange for their service of some sort, but I'm not giving a person capable of contributing to society any handouts without getting at least something in return.

There are programs that have been established to help homeless people rise out of their pverty if they so desire. It is my opinion that the ones who do not desire a change in their way of life are the very same ones who are out on the streets begging.

Oops. There's one little problem with this website. It's full of crap. This site claims that the Southeast and Gulf Coast states have the highest percentage of "givers", yet when Forbes magazine (a righty-slanted mag, if ever there was one), covered this very topic, they pointed out that 82% of the New England households give to charity, while only 65% of the Southeast and Gulf Coast states do.

Man, don't you right-wingers ever get tired of getting busted for posting BS and claiming it is the truth?

Nice try at playing "con the masses", but this same story made the rounds on the armature progressive sites more than two years ago. A little cut and paste may make for useless banter, but how about trying a real scenario?

Ralph Reed seems to be very fertile ground for bait and switch don't you think?

Very funny! (although I know its so sad.)

My lib friends make fun of me because I don't give to most organized charities because they have overheads that take the money from the poeple who need it. I make a difference by volunteering (50-60 hours a month on the ambulance squad and 12 hours a month teaching migrant farm workers english).

There is no reason for people to STAY homeless, one can become homeless because of circumstances, but this country has all you need to get your sh*t together. How about that? I can't even imagine this country should Kerry had won. Too bad Condi isn't running.

Oh Bullshit! What a load of crock! Repubs don't give a damn about any homeless person and are why most of them are homeless in the first place.
