Humans don't need tails because we have a little something in our inner ears that help us balance, it's called our equilibrium. Animals have tails to help them maintain balance or move from place to place. Regarding the latter, we have our own feet to get us from place to place, or motorized vehicles, though I prefer my own two feet.

We don't need one. Tails are for balance and gripping things, which we seem to be able to do plenty good without it (unlike animals). We don't even have a "tail bone." The tail bone is just a bone that is useful for muscle attachment. Without it, you wouldn't be able to walk. It is just as much a lost tail as your arm is.

There is no need of tail for humans, because they can walk or stand with their hind limbs (legs) only. Those animals using their fore limbs should have tail for balancing.

The coccyx is not a 'remnant' of a tail, it is an important bone.
We don't have a tail because we were created without one and don't need one.
