No... Sims 2 is totally separate.

You do not need to have the sims 1 to play the sims 2. Sims 1 expansion packs will not work on a sims 2 game.

Download your sims 2 game, then download the sims 2 expansions. In my experience, it doesn't matter what order you download them in (and I have experamented with it). After you download an expansion, you will play the sims game WITH the newest expansion disk.

For example, if you download the sims 2 then download university, you will now play with the university disc just like sims 1.

I experamented and found that no matter what order you download them in, you play with the newest expansion. For example if I downloaded sims 2, then open for business, then university...I would still play with the open for business CD because it is the newest expansion...even though university is the last one I loaded. I dont know if you care just thought I'd share that in case you were wondering lol

Sims 1 is completely separate from Sims 2. You do need Sims 2 for the Sims 2 expansions, though (University, Nightlife, Open for Business... etc...)
