I would suggest renting the game first if you haven't played it yet. Many people seem to get attracted by the Title, features, graphics and box art but later find out that the game isn't really fun at all. Renting it allows you to play it and test it out. I know sometimes you can't find them in rental stores. Some video game places let you try before you buy. You can simply ask if they have an open copy of the game and that you would like to view it or test it out.
If the game is rated beyond your age then It is completely up to your mother if she thinks the game is appropriate for you. If the game's rating is within your age group then I would also recommend asking your mom what you can do to get the game. Make a deal with her. As others on here have suggested, do things within your abilities like house chores or yard chores.
Goodluck to you.
Oh one more thing... maybe research the game a bit? Maybe if you knew more about the game and showe your mom that you have already looked into why you like and want then maybe she will feel better about purchasing the game for you. If you say you want it because it "sounds cool" then she might be worried about spending money on something that ends up not being cool for you.

Ask her what you can do to get one... like improve your grades, do more chores around the house, possibly get a job to save for one yourself... I'm sure you'll be able to find a compromise. Unless she just flat out feels that they are too violent or bad for you for whatever reason... in which case there's no hope. Get yourself a tiddlywinks set.

You should tell her that it will help you in real life and that it will help you with your responsibility.
