It is a copper iud. I have had it for 4 years. Recintly developed spotting. Yes, I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. The thing is that I'm convinced I have cancer. It's very upsetting. I hope that it is just the iud, but I don't know.

I have a Mirena IUD, not copper, but I have had some spotting off and on. Asked my doctor about it at my last annual (I have endometriosis, so I was really worried about that) and he said that it could be the endometriosis, or it could be nothing. You still ovulate with the IUD, which means that you still have some thickening of the uterus, and after a few months of build up, it makes sense that your body would need to get some of that out. Some women still have their normal periods with them, especially with the copper IUD. I'm sure it's nothing serious, but you're doing the right thing going to the doctor, especially if you're pretty freaked out about it.

I have had my IUD since august. I still have some spotting.. I would think it is normal.

Glad you are going to the Dr. Hope things go well for you.

Hope things turn out normal. Relax.

My mother told me she had one of these many years ago and would spot occasionally.

The more stressed out you make yourself, the more likely you'll have break through bleeding. Even when I'm not on birth control and I get extremely stressed, I'll spot a little bit.
