When I brought my car, I was told that I would need a oxygen sensor. Could that be the reason why my car isn't getting the pressure that it needs? I have had a complete tune-up. Before I contact a repairman, I would like to at least know what I should tell him to look for. The car ran fine for at least a month. Please offer any advice that you can.

If the check engine light is on, the on-board computer is holding one or more diagnostic codes.

Take it to a repair garage. They will read the codes and determine what the problem is with their diagnostic equipment.

Your car may be in "limp-home" mode. This is done by the onboard computer to basically allow you to move the car when a major malfunction has occured. You could have a bad oxygen sensor, as you stated, or a bad air mass meter, or something else might be wrong. The oxygen sensor measures oxygen in the exhaust gases and is part of the emissions control system. The AMM measures the mass of air entering the engine intake and reports it to the onboard engine control computer.

Ask the repairman to read you the "On Board Diagnostic" code. This will cost about $75. Then, you know what the problem is, and you can decide if you want to pay him to fix it

Sounds like you've got some problems!

No, it sounds like the transmission has dropped the other gears past first. The same thing happened to my husband's Lumina.

Sounds like it's in limp mode, which a non-functional oxygen sensor could cause. But many other things could throw it into limp mode too.

Throw it in a dumpster! Seriously, make sure that all of the fluids are topped off. IF that doesn't help, you can usually go to a gas station or Jiffy Lube type place.

Sounds like it's a transmission problem. They sold you a lemon. I hope you aren't still paying for it.
