A lot of babies do lose weight the first few days. There are a number of possible reasons:
For some babies it is just normal.
If the mother had an IV drip during labor, the water from it gets into the baby's body--so the baby's birth weight is artificially inflated. When he loses the water, his weight drops.
If the mother had an epidural or other medication during labor, the baby may be sleepy from the drugs and not eat as much as he needs to.
Many medical people aren't aware that breastfed babies need to nurse every hour or two the first few days, so baby doesn't get the nourishment they're supposed to.

Breastfeed!!! LOL Um... so i'm type of intense... lol i'm now 13wks put up shipping and that i'm in basic terms 2 lbs aways from my pre being pregnant weight. I received 40lbs!!! so as that is... (calculating)... 3 lbs a week. that is no longer the way it surely worked out because I left the hospital weighing about 15-18lbs a lot less. So i wager that is about a million a million/2 lbs a week. you're literally not meant to lose more desirable than a pound or a pound and a 1/2 a week even as breastfeeding, it releases too many pollution into the milk... I ate nicely and that is about it. and regularly i did not eat nicely in any respect! i imagine carrying my toddler round helped out! LOL i prefer to commence yoga and probably doing repetitions with 5lb weights (the lighter the burden and the extra reps the extra fat burned and also you do not advance muscle bulk yet you do develop the muscle you've). you are able to attempt pilates or swimming or cycling/eliptical... solid success! stay influenced becuase this is constructive listening to someone say "It would not even seem as in case you've had a touch one!"

It's very normal. Congrats to your family! When my son was born he weighed 8lb 4oz. A day later he was under eight pounds. The reason is that babies need to stay warm and they spend a lot of their calories keeping warm. In fact, they spend more calories keeping warm than they can take in. That's why they lose weight. That's also why it's very important to keep the little hats on their heads.

Yes, do they do usually loose weight the first couple of days. I'm not really sure why, I think it's cuz the baby no longer has the constant nutrients coming from the mother. By the two week mark they are usually back to birth weight

This is completly normal. Most babies lose weight the first few days, but they will gain it back quickly. While in the womb they had a placenta attatched to feed them, and now they have to get used to feeding by mouth. If you have any concerns talk to the baby's doctor.

It's normal, especially for a breastfed baby because the milk doesn't come in right away, only what is called colostrum. They will keep track of his weight and if he loses too much they will do something.

yes most babies lose weight to fact that they are no longer feeding off of mom. Now they need to learn to drink from the bottle and it takes them a few days to get the hang of it. then the weight starts to pile on. So dont worry your baby is fine.

it is normal for babies to lose weight as long as it is not a significant amount. they lose weight because they go from being automatically fed in the womb, to having to work to get food. it takes a little time for their bodies to adjust to that.
