My dad's right arm/shoulder has been in alot of pain lately, and he's losing mobility in it, fast, with no apparent reason. I mean, he's having trouble picking things up, and, it's even getting harder for him to just lift his arm up in general. It seems like he is losing strength in the arm. It's becoming apparent to me that the muscles in his arm seems like they are degenerating just by looking at it. We've tried massaging it, stretching it, resting it, ice, heat packs, but to no avail. I just seems like it's getting worse.

He's in his late 50's and he works in a typical factory job does typical factory things like drive a forklift, carry things here and there, etc.. nothing too strenuous. To my knowledge, he hasn't gotten injured in any way, so, I'm clueless, and the doctor's seem to be as well.

Please help. Any type of advice would be greatly appreciated. I am extremely worried.

Thanks

I wish I had this 2 years ago when I damaged my rotator cuff while showing off. This is very detailed and really gives you the techniques you need to sort out your own shoulder issues and a lot more info such as preventing further injuries. If you have a shoulder keeping you awake at night you'll know it's no laughing matter.

^_^ I did a fair bit when I was younger. It got to the point that I was getting lumps, welts and bruises for no real good reason that I could recall. That last bit was important though: eventually I did figure out what was happening. I was literally dissociating myself out of my skin. Turns out when I'm tired or under distress but I *have to* keep going, eventually my mind will tune out my body and "pilot it" as if by remote control. I did this a lot in the more physical, manual labor jobs I did when I was younger. It got the job done, but it also got me hurt *after the fact* once I was back in my own skin again and could feel the pain, but not have *clue one* how I hurt myself. o_o Not so good. I've since learned it's better for me emotionally to stay present even though it means I feel more pain and fatigue in the moment. ^_^ People kinda *know* when you're zoned out and find it creepy, you know? But aside from that, if I get *injured* it lets me respond to it properly. I hope this helps, at least somewhat. ^_^

could be the first sign of stroke- get proper medical help- stat. watch for speech slurring, fatigue, etc. a chiropractor could assist.

may also be spine misalignment, nerve pinching. have him sit on a chair and slowly stretch his back so as to not cause any pain. slight torso turns, as well as head pivots while slowly curving the spine following the same axis will find the area that is pinched. at some point he may find his arm is better. worked for me last week. i started yoga again and swimming thrice weekly to work out the kinks.

Take him to a doctor or even better, urgent care ASAP!!!! It could be caused by like the heat or it could be the result of a stroke, my grandpa had a stroke and he didn't even know until he went to the doctor for a check-up.

I have heard recently of something called "frozen shoulder" - ask a doctor. I believe you need to do daily stretches, and it goes away but can last as long as 2 years.

Was it a broken calvicle (collar bone)?
Take him to an orthopaedic specialist ASAP. Get Dr. Clueless to write a referral for him.

Find your dad a good osteopath in your area. He might be able to help. They are better than chiropractors
