becaused they are not in the proccess of actualization, there's a gap (void) between what they'd like to be or be at and who they are at the moment and buy into the thinking pattern that their reality is fixated and not something tangible, so they rather deny their state because it's easier and less painfull to confront one-self and that's when people start filling the void with anything you can imagine.

We all have times when we feel incomplete. It's times like those when we go searching for something to fill ourselves up. For some it is a partner, a pet, a child, a new hobby, a cause. For many others it's a closer relationship with God. We inevitably find what we need if we search for it. I had to retire for health reasons, and realized there was a huge void where my demanding career had been. I just got really busy at home, taking care of my daughter and my three dogs. I had to learn how to relax, sit down, be still. It's not easy, but doable.

Could it be that the void we experience in a moment of clarity is inseparable from the awareness that manifests the universe of appearances and possibilities, whether of samsara or nirvana. Being purely present in the Here and Now opens the infinite dimension of emptiness, which is terrifying but it is not dying. Still that’s why ordinary mind is compelled to fill that emptiness with all sorts of distractions, and karmically conditioned behavior that further imprisons humanity in samsara. Liberation is recognizing the awareness which manifests this infinite universe. O'ola!

Perhaps they just aren't introspective enough to take that long hard look and realize just what it is they're missing. I've had a hair-trigger temper for three months and blamed it on post-surgical issues (a week in the hospital turned into a month, infections, healing much more slowly than expected, transfusions) and the fact that I'm going to need one or two more surgeries. I realized that the real reason is that I really want to get back to work and get on with my life and all the chocolate in the world won't change that! *wink*

It depends on the person, if the person is old or dying, the person has to carpe diem. Some just dont want to live life for no reason, and if you noticed, some people commit suicide since they see no reason for their living. those who fill in the void with unneccessary stuff are usually theives, or maybe in a profession that is not what they wanted but what their parents wanted...

The void is felt because that "thing" is unreachable, so they just do whatever they can to get something close to it to satisfy their needs. Although I know a girl who's son died so she filled THAT void with another child..which was exactly what she was missing..she still could not get him HIM back so she settled for her new babygirl.

That's kinda the point of why the void is percieved to be there...they can't have what they are longing for or feel would make them truly happy; that's why they substitute it with the next best thing they can find.

To add some happiness that isn't there - especially if they can't figure out how to fix the void.

Because some people are raised to think that they need to have "things"...If you think about it...when a child is born..they dont feel that need...and they dont feel it at 1...but as they grow up...they are influenced heavily by parents/friends...and that is when a person becomes corrupted to think this way...unforntunate....

People are trying to distract themselves with material things and habits to help them avoid the truth. They need to find their great love and their purpose for breathing.
