The Republican party is more conservative and doesn't by definition want to make big changes quickly. By doing this they have a platform that seems steady.
The Democratic party is built on a more Liberal base. This allows for more wide ranging thoughts and therefore more possible platforms.
If you had two piles of hay, each with a pin in it. A small pile (Republican platform choices) and a large pile(Democratic platform choices).
You could only look in one for the pin.
Which looks more organized?
The pin ( platform) is in each stack, it is just easier to see the one from the small stack.

The democrat party is having a horrible time right now. They have too many people on the far left trying to pull the strings. A President or even a Presidential hopeful knows that you can't just base your platform on a far left agenda. You need to be able to work issues for ALL Americans and not just those special Interest groups. While the ones that want to run for President want to appear more moderate and to the middle, the far left interest groups are having a cow. Look at what they are doing to Senator Lieberman, they are ostracizing the man because he has actually been to Iraq and sees the progress. He also See's the benefits of our success in that region. We certainly can't have President Bush being correct on anything. I see the far Left as a bunch of spoiled control freaks that only have their interests in mind and not this country. As long as they are so entrenched in the Democrat Party they will have problems. I hope Lieberman breaks from them and goes Independent. He will really set that party on their heels, he will also do a number on the Republican side too. Many republican like him.

Because there are a lot of Democrats that have different individual plans. They cannot agree on one single platform. It is frustrating to a lot of us Dems. I think the Republicans have followed the same plan for the past five and a half years...do whatever the president and his administration says. Democrats aren't content with that when they see what harm that does. So they all have different ideas and they get jumbled around a lot. In the meantime, they create confusion amongst each other and the platform falls apart.
By the way...when you ask a question like this, you won't get many democrats to answer. Instead you get answers like the ones from therandman and netjr who do nothing but demonize and criticize us.

Lets look at the top 3 to 5 issues of their platform and see if you (or anyone else) would vote for it;
1) Change the definition of a 2100 year old word for a special interest group (gay marriage legal).
2) Regulate and tax cars and businesses some more to pay some environmental lawyers to stop global warming?
3) Cut and run from Iraq even on a time table putting our boys (and girls) over there at a new risk and with no plan to handle what happens with al queda after we leave.
4) Raise taxes on the rich (but don't define rich) and spend more on unionized government labor (like they don't make enough now).
5) No new drilling, no new refineries, no new nuclear power plants, and blame someone else for black outs and gas price hikes.
You going to vote for that?

Dennis Miller said it best in an old rant: "The Republican plan may suck, but at least the Republicans have a plan."
Even with a coherent plan, however, I couldn't seriously consider voting Democrat with as far to the left as the party has gone. I simply don't trust them. Not that I trust the current leadership.

It is always harder to get your message out to the people when you do not have a voice in the House and Senate. We can not create legislation to get passed we can only vote on it. If we had the power the Republican have right now it would be very easy to get our message out because we could put legislation on the floor to be discussed and support our values as a whole. Right now the Dems are worried about one thing and that is appealing to the people in their states. That is why it appears they have no unified message.

history has shown democrats usually enter later on in the race, where republicans will typically start campaigning right away. It's just a different tactic. Clinton entered very late in the game, and still won. It will be interesting to see what happens

Not knowing what they want and making it up as they go along is the Democratic platform.

The party is a group of misfits whose only common ground to their desire for hand outs from the government.
Think about it..who makes up the party's "fundamental groups"
1- Farmers want the crp land handouts but are really good ole boys
2- Pro-choice, wants abortion funded by the government (true)
3- young idealistic college students(grads) who spent for years in college now are stuck at their menial jobs but think they "deserve" more
4- Gays
5- Union workers
6-Environmentalists
OK now put them all together in a bar and have them agree on anything. The Union workers vs college kids, Farmers vs environmentalists, GLB vs farmers and union, pro choice vs macho farmer and union, It just isn't going to work.

(jack f-- i definitely get your "drip", incredibly insightful.) bad news, folks. both parties are owned by the same globalist "elites". the democrats' "inaction" is in accord with the instructions they have received from those self proclaimed elites. when they do begin to "act" that will have been scripted, too. check out www.educate-yourself.org and www.davidicke.com, and google:bush crime family for some sad news. surviving this administration and the globalist agenda will be a major triumph for us "mere peasants". oh, and if you really want to get depressed, google: chemtrails. good luck to us all!
