Advantages: 1) support (of the faith and of your church) 2) happiness (knowledge of a God that loves me and an afterlife) 3) intelligence (despite what some people who only know how to insult) - I enjoy studying theology, reading and talking about religion between my own and different faiths. 4) It's true (as far as my faith believes), so "knowing" I'm on the correct side is good. (while others may disagree, that is because they "know" their side is right and I'm sure they feel good to know they are "right") 5) Miracles - I'm able to see miracles for what they are, instead of trying to be a cynic and looking for the thread, smoke and mirrors all the time. BONUS: 6) great trips. I've been to Europe twice on pilgrimages. (Heck, I was in Europe when the 9-11 attacks occured - THAT was interesting). Been all over Italy, saw Eucharistic miracles, the Shroud of Turin, the Pope at a Canonization Mass (JPII if you wanted to know), lots of great works of art. I've been to Fatima, Lourdes, Lisieux, Paris, etc... We would have hit a few sites in Rome, but that was on the 9-11 trip and only we made it over (the other 40 people were stuck in the US). So we had no guides, etc... and had to miss that part of the trip disadvantages 1) it takes time & effort -go to church at least once a week, I teach the faith to 7th graders once a week for 2 hours, etc.. 2) It isn't for wimps. A lot of expectations on behavior and such. While you may decide to be good for your own reason or for the 'good of society", believing that there is possible eternal punishment for poor behavior is a bit of a motivation. 3) You get to be insulted. Here on yahoo answers, in public, in school, in politics, etc... we're one of the few groups left that it seems acceptable to attack - other than white males. LOL 4) Nagging doubts about whether you are correct in choice of religion and the denomination of it. While you believe it to be true, there is no PROOF, hence the term faith. 5) Money. I'd have 10+ percent more money if I was donating to my church and otehr areas.
