I need it mostly for school work, research, etc. I need it to go pretty fast. I dont know anything about computers, so I dont know what GB or any of that stuff is. What should I look for? my budget is about $500-$600.

Go to http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.com and send me the spec. I will tell you if its a good deal or not.

You will want a laptop that has at least 80gigs of hard drive memory and at least 512MB RAM. Pentium 4 or above processors are really good. Make sure the graphics card and sound card is up to date.

For $600 you might be able to find a decent laptop but with a small display monitor. But you can get a laptop that will meet minimal requirements as long as you dont overload it with programs and games.

Your best bet would be EBAY. You can look for Dell or IBM laptops and if they have Intel Centrino then they are relatively new and would be fast enough for you. If you don't have any luck staying in your price range look for laptops with over 1Ghz and 256MB RAM and 20 GB hard drive. The bigger the numbers the better. Also look at the feedback rating and deal with those that are reputable sellers. Good deals can be had if you look.
