Midwest - Try Minnesota, Michigan or Wisconsin. You could probably buy a mansion here for what a normal house cost you in CT. Also, there is lots of fresh air, lakes, things to do and friendly people without being overcrowded.

The friendliest State I know is West Virginia. If you like a 4-season climate and beautiful mountains with many gorgeous state parks and historical places to visit, you would love West Virginia. If you like fishing, I would suggest Greenbrier County as the place to start your search for a home. People say the cost of living is high in WV, but that's not true for every area; just for the areas that have the bigger cities and denser population. Many of the counties in the eastern part of WV are sparsely populated, yet offer good access to supplies and provisions. It is simply a beautiful State, offering many scenic resources. OKLAHOMA! I love this state. Property taxes are a lot lower and most of the smaller towns are very quaint and nice to live in. Even the bigger cities aren't too bad if you prefer city life. We have a much lower crime rate and cost of living is a lot cheaper than other states. We also have a lot of lakes to go fishing or boating. We have lots of Casinos and places to go! I love my town because you really get to know everyone. It's the type of place where if you need help, someone is going to be there for you, like a friend or neighbor. It's also a wonderful place to raise children and settle down. It's a beautiful place to live. I personally like notheastern Oklahoma. It's beautiful country through here! Try Oklahoma! Even if you just tour through it, you'll love it!

Florida's West Coast. Alaska if you can stand the weather. Portland, OR if your kewl. Vegas if you want fun - prices are going up though. Palm Springs if you're gay. AZ if you like the dry heat. Yes all these are on the upper end of the cost efficient scale - though not expensive. Anything cheaper usually includes red necks, hill billies and klansmen unfortunately.

New Hampshire has no sales tax. The northern half is rural, cost efficient and friendly. Southern N.H. is too much like Massachusetts. It's close to Conn. so you can still visit friends and family on a weekend.
