it will be me and my sister her daughter and my two sons we're looking for fun places to go and good places to eat the day before we go to six flags.

Sadly there isn't much to see in Gurnee or any of the surrounding cities. There are many nature parks if you are into the walking/nature thing (independence grove at IL route 137 and IL Route 21 roughly is the nicest). There's an indoor mini-golf across the street from Great America. There's a renaissance fair in Kenosha/Racine Wisconsin off I-94, usually open on weekends maybe open on the weekdays (don't remember) it's about 20 minutes from Gurnee, really worth checking out (a full day though to see everything can be shorter if necessary). There's Gurnee Mills if you like shopping, 100's of stores. Food: sadly there's mainly "chain" restaurants (ex. Chili's, Applebee's, TGIFridays...) Off the beaten path but well worth trying it if you are passing by are Big Bowl for Chinese/Thai food, big prtions reasonably priced, and Walker Brother's Pancake House (have some non breakfast related food, but these are not your typical pancakes, once you try the Apple pancake you'll never eat Hungry Jack again) Both are located in Lincolnshire/Deerfield, IL and are about 15-20 min south via I-94. Journey's End for dinner or sandwich's and free soup (comes with the meal) is a great place. They make great homemade soup. This is in Mundelein, IL, corner of IL route 45 and IL Route 60, I believe.

I would venture over to Gurnee Mills. Lots of shops, places to eat.
