Thats called a chemical reaction, if you have a bleach dispenser cup in your washing machine then put the bleach in ther and it will dispense at the right time. But the way the color changes has never hurt my laundry befor. I even pore bleach and detergent into a cup together to use on my whites as a precleaner on tough stains.

Usually there is a separate place to pour the bleach into. I have never mixed the two, so I am not sure if you are getting a weird chemical reaction or something else just as strange.

Sounds like a harmless mixture-- however there are definately harmful mixtures in the common household cleaners--Some of the mixtures throw off a toxic gas and you inhale it-- so be very, very careful when you change detergent brands or mix any household cleaners together to do a "better job".
good luck

Because Bleach is an "Oxidizer", and you have "Fe3" (Iron Oxide) occuring naturally in the water supply that you draw from.

Fe (Iron) + Bleach (oxidizer) = RUST

Rust has a reddish color, you may be able to get a stain fixer from the municiple water supplier in your area (If thats your water source), otherwise don't add bleach at all.
