Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt, who was the senior policy advisor for the Dept. of Education wrote a book entitled "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America". She details the specific agenda by the US DOE to mold Americans into a group of people that do not think for themselves and will follow the leadership without question. The poor grammer is a by-product of this agenda.

You are absolutely correct on this subject. I am American and I find it very sad, and concerning that most of the answers are using the most terrible English.
I believe it is the fault of the answerer and yahoo. The people want to get the answers so quickly that they done really care how it comes out. Although yahoo has provided a spell check it only works for short answers. So therefore I need to cut my answer short to check my spelling.

Don't hold the citizens of a country liable for not having the option for better education. Parents expect the schools to it do all and school expect the parents to play an active role. In the end it's the kids who short changed and they have no idea until they get out into the world.

The United States' public school system has gone into the crapper in the last 20 years or so. The emphasis is not now so much on factual education as on social engineering. Couple this with the extensive use of chat room shorthand, and you have a mass of illiterate gibberish. As a US citizen who graduated from high school BEFORE 1980, I heartily share your concern.

Trust me, I'm American and an English major, and it's horribly embarrassing to me to read some of the things on here, too, especially considering at least half of the grammatical errors are intentional (not to mention the fact that all the spelling errors make our inherent laziness glaringly obvious since there's a spell-check right there).
It really is embarrassing to be an American sometimes.

I'm sorry but I thought this was a blog to express ideas...I didn't know we were to be graded on grammer. We are not here to write elegant essays or treatises. We write in an internet slang....the idea of which is to quickly & effectively communicate ideas to each other. If you're looking for "proper English" then go talk to the British...

I agree the way a lot of people write is atrocious, the very least they could do is run spell check. However, if your read some of the questions and answers on here you'll realize the internet is just as open to yokels as it is to the intelligent.

People are allowed to make mistakes, and some of us are just not that good a grammar. Your not perfect either. God forbid that everyone in the world is not grammatically correct or spells correctly all the time.

English is my first language, and it really is embarassing to see how a lot of people choose to type. The worsing itself is another thing altogether, it representas the thought process and thus is even more depressing. But hey, this is the age of de-evolution, so I guess there's nothing to do.

I have noticed that a lot of people on here do it and have come to the conclusion that they are just trying to be funny... Either that or they are just that stupid!!! It's ignorant! That is why we go to school, they teach english in school... You would think that they would learn something...
