and divide it by the whole number plus the 30% does it not come out as 30%? Please help!!

Let n be the number.

.30 times n = .3n

Now divide by n + .3n to get

.3n/(n + .3n)

You can factor the denominator to get

.3n/(n(1+.3)

The n's cancel out to give .3/1.3 = approx 27%

Why did you think it would come out to 30%? You are dividing 30% of a number by that number increased by 30%.
