The story took place at Crystal Lake in upstate New York and his name is Jason Voorhees and there is a Voorheesville in upstate NY. I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was some truth to Jason.

Nope, all from the imagination of the writers. Perhaps they were inspired by local names when they created their camp and killers, but Nightmare on Elm Street WAS based on news reports of teenagers dying violently in their sleep.
