Pardon me for being a dummie. I had a friend to type me some resumes and a cover letter. I think the cover letter is suppose to be signed. I don't want to ask her because I feel stupid and I should know the answer but I don't. At the bottom of the cover letter it says

Sincerely,

My name here.

Do I signed between sincerely and my name?

Yes...every letter should be signed.

And csucdartgirl is right...each letter should be (at least partially) re-written to reflect the details of the position you're applying for. For example, "...attached you will find my resume, which I am submitting in response to your posting for an office manager...". It doesn't need to be complicated, just a quick introduction to explain why you're sending them your resume.

Also, if your friend is nice enough to help you with your resume, I'm sure she'd be happy to help with any questions you'd have...that's what friends do!

Yes, you are supposed to sign the cover letter. Yes, you sign between Sincerely, and your name. Sign it in black or dark blue ink.

Don't feel stupid. At least you are sending a cover letter. Many people don't even do that.

If you are mailing a hard copy of your resume and cover letter to a prospective employer then I would say yes. If you are e-mailing, or cutting and pasting a cover letter into an on-line form then it's not necessary.

Yes, you sign between the "Sincerely" and the printed version of your name. Sign your name just as it's printed, or vice versa, i.e. be consistent.

Yes sign it. And tailor each letter to the specific company so it doesn't look like a form letter. Mention the company's name and sell yourself.

Exactly.
It's Sincerely (or a lot of people use "Best regards")...

Enter 4x...
Then type your name...
(Your Signtature goes in the space.)
