Well for one thing, I work at a pet store and know for a fact that you should NEVER use something as strong as bitter apple on a hamster. The hamster is obviously bored and needs a better cage with tunnels or some cool hamster toys. They need to keep their teeth short and hamsters are natural chewers. Make sure to get toys that are specifically for hamsters. The hamster is probably biting you because it does not want to be played with and is rebelling against being locked in his cage. Also if you have a dwarf hamster they are known for chewing and biting because they are mean and overbreed and I would NEVER reccomend one.

his teeth might have been overgrown and he is trying to shorten them. A friend of mine had a hamster that died because it couldnt eat-his teeth were preventing it from eating.
you can go to the vet to get it shortened and will stop him from biting on the bars

make sure he has wood chips to gnaw on. they need to chew constantly to keep there teeth the proper length.

He is teething. give him chewtoys! and food might help.
