formula of methane is CH4
its molecular weight= 12 +4x1(C=12,H=1)
=12+4
=16

Methane is CH4. The atomic weight of carbon is 12.011 amu. For hydrogen, it's 1.00797 amu. Adding them together yields:

16.04288 amu

This isn't completely correct as there is a very small mass change with the four chemical bonds, but it should be close enough.
