Yes, Ease on the brake. Concentrate when you drive. Don't worry about the person in the seat next to you. The point of practicing driving is so you can get comfortable driving. You have to be comfortable or you're going to be jumpy and make a mistake. Imagine yourself driving perfectly, and having the person in the seat next to you being very happy about your driving. Do it often. And then Lastly, Stop caring. Stop caring either way if you pass or fail and focus on driving comfortabley. You'll only be good once you're comfortable. Get comfortable. Be easy. And stop caring. You'll do Awesome.

best to practice off the road ...in a driveway or parking lot. A lot of it has to do with "feel". Try driving the same car each time...and keep your heel on the floor...rotating your foot between the gas and brake....using more of your toes on the brake. IM for further ideas...

imagine an egg between the pedal and your foot. however, you must know when to press hard. know ahead of time how much space you need to slow down or stop. practice practice practice. also another help is, put a coffee cup filled with water on dash, and drive as to never let it spill out. or an imaginary one works too.

Relax. It is stress. Train your breaking sitting on a comfortable chair with some food-tin under your foot. It will let you get used to using that foot without the stress.

Trust me. You will feel like a fool but your breaking skill will improve dramatically.
