we had to have him castraed this morning

No, not do that. If you feel you need to give him something get some Bute from your Vet. I've have 3 colts cut this year and we don't give them pain meds, in fact, I've never given pain meds for this. They get over being gelded in a few days.

Best thing if your unsure...call your vet and ask him.

ask your vet for an appropriate pain medication for your new gelding. His pain will go away shortly and remember to exersise him lightly (walking him only) to help with his healing. keep the flies down too so he does not get fly struck. usually the vet gives him a pain injection with his sedative

HELL NO!!!! if you had him gelded by a professional vet and he did not give you any pain killers then he/she thought the surgery was not bad and that your horse doesn't need em!!!


if anything, a small amount of bute but nothing else!!!

call a vet. and i'm pretty sure its spelled hydrocodone.
