As what was said to Zidane starts to come to light I think maybe he should've done. Although there's only a certain level of violence that can be carried out on the field of play before the police start getting involved. Besides, Zidane reacted to provocation. If he had truely done Materazzi some harm the game would've become a horror show and not to be viewed by children, for example. But Marco Materazzi really is a vile character.
