They were great as a team (probably the best) however, individually John was a better songwriter but Paul was a better pop songwriter.

I used to think McCartney but the older I get, the more I like the Lennon songs.

John Lennon.....his songs had more social consciousness to them, more of an edge and were more relevant. Nothing against Paul McCartney, but his songs tend to be more syrupy and sappy - more love sings.
