You know what as a native of Boston I will tell you fly! I say this because Boston is much more rich in history and a very great place to vacation more than people think, you are going to want as much time there as possible when you get there when you see how much the city has to offer.

I've been to Boston a few times and gone both ways from Michigan. I actually recommend flying because their public trasportation is so easy to use and fairly cheap... plus Boston can be a ***** to drive around in. If you do end up driving, just try to park somewhere easy to remember and close to a subway station so you're not stuck in horrible traffic all day. you can also take trains to all the little harbor towns and places like Newburyport and Salem. Super easy navigation.

Gosh...I personall y believe that driving in the northeast, especially in the fall is beautiful. Virginia to Boston is not that far so driving wouldn't be a chore, yet it would be beautiful to drive and view senery and reflect on how good life is to you...
I say drive and spend some time with you.
Or you can rush in lines at Logan Airport just to be delayed sitting in front of the snot nose brat who kicks your chair and be served crappy peanuts for all their shitty service.
I don't want to seem biased or anything.. But drive..
Besides Sept in the northeast flying... too creepy for me
I mean can you say... Taliban??

Fly

Get (a) the mileage you'd be going, and (b) how many miles your car could go on a tank of gas, divide (a) by (b) that would give you how many tanks of gas it would take you. then multiply that number by two if you're going round trip and didn't factor that into (a) Then multiply the number of tanks of gas by how much it costs to fill your car up. That's approximately how much gas it would cost. Then compare the gas cost with the cost of a roundtrip ticket from VA to Boston.

Take the bus! You get to enjoy the fun of sitting next to someone that doesn't know the meaning of personal hygiene! Of if you are extremely lucky, the person will fall asleep and begin to snore loud enough to throw the bus tires out of alignment, while at the same time drooling on your brand new laptop. Joy!

I would drive, but then again with the price of gas it might worth flying.
