My boss is paying me not enough! She pays her other staff more, but since Im Mexican she thinks Im not smart enough.My raise is coming up, I want to demand that she pays me more or I will have to give my resignition. How should I explain this to her?

I'd say look up wage data for your occupation (see source below) and argue for a competitive wage based on that. The website will give a range of values for different occupations. If you have very little experience, then arguing for the "average" may not be applicable. However, if you are experienced, and generally very well qualified and do good work, then an argument could be made for a salary that is greater than the average. I would use the data as a reference, and bring it to the review when discussing your raise.

A word of caution however, that depending on the market in your area, you may not have much negotiation room. And not only that, but it depends on how your employer views the market (which, of course, you have no way of knowing). If the employer thinks you are easily replaceable for the salary you are currently recieving, then it will be much harder to try to get a raise.

Just get a different job. You can tell her how much you need to stay and that you have a different job offering more. If she wants you, she will pay more. If not, try the other job.

Call the labor board in your area and ask them about it.
