What is it exactly that you want to do? You could take one of the pre made layouts and modify it with a few small changes to the code. If you could be more specific I could help you more

you can try stuff like pimpmymyspace.com, thomasmyspaceeditor.com and it you want to host images they photo bucket.com or image shack( they resize picture for you)
i think thomas is the most simple...and they have a link to help you upload something if you want it as a back ground.
