It has mine.

I've been coming here for a few weeks now and I was thinking about this the other day. While I have not changed any of my beliefs, I do have a better understanding of why I believe what I do and how the other side thinks.

I used to think that most republicans just didn't know the real facts. I felt for sure that if they watched news like PBS The Newshour that is nuetral, then how could they not see things my way...

Since coming here, I've learned that, excluding the ones that don't know what they are talking about on both sides, a lot of republicans do understand the facts but their core beliefs are just different than mine.

I think we can't begin to come to any sort of compromise until we all can at least understand the other side.

You are a wise person.I agree totally with you.I have been using this site for several months and have really been educated on some things.I certainly don't agree with some of the answers on here;but that's a good thing.Debate is good.Namecalling and insults are not.Good conversation among diverse people is a healthy and fun activity. We just have to weed out the folks who are a little too worked up to make good arguments and resort to spewing hate and generalizations.I contact people on here all the time and invite them to contact me with ideas and opinions. It's a great way to learn and get to know new people.Peace.

This is an eye opener for democrats (haven't found a republican equivalent but would love to find one). Regardless of party - it's obvious after looking at the information below that all Americans are equally UNDER represented or MIS represented. It's all power/money on both sides of the aisle. I say we fire both of them and start over.

What kills me is this belief that democrats aren't rich and powerful... that's laughable... check out this site - see for yourself.

PS The piece on Michael Moore is priceless - just priceless. Indulge in the truth for a bit.

I think this is a good question. Although coming here has not changed my main ideas, I have realized a lot of things. Im a strong republican but have seen a lot of good points from opposing parties. I have seen a lot of people who just complain all the time, but now I have also seen some people who really do care. I think its good to learn about other people and what they think.

I think your next to last paragraph hits the nail on the head. I am fairly politically conservative, yet I like to read a liberally based view if it is presented with reason and with at least a modicum of respect for somebody with differing views. I can't stand the speeches, er, questions, that say something flamboyant just to elicit emotional responses. When a view is well-articulated, regardless of whether or not I agree with it, it can be educational.

I completely agree with you. I have read some statements that make me think about why I feel the way I do about certain issues, and even though I always retain my previous beliefs, I still have been made to reexamine why I think them. There really are a few people on this site that are intelligent, although I think misguided(just a jab, just a jab), who are just as devoted to their beliefs as I am. Good question!

For the most part, the answers that are provided on Yahoo QA are usually too idiotic to bother with or the sincere ones are usually not enough to get me to change my mind because most responders do not provide factual bases for their arguments.

there is no side in reality.

both side of our government were created by a small group of individuals with large amounts of money and power. They focused on how to CONTROL both side of this new country. DING!!! create a government that takes both sides, liberal and conservative and then make the common man fight amoungs themselves while we steal all the power and money.

gosh open your eyes america. its a scam

Just a little bit, it has made me realize how insane and uneducated many extremists are and I've become quite unextreme in my political leanings. I despise ideology with every fiber of my being.
