At Claire's, there's like this thing where it says that you could get your ears pierced for free if you buy the 17.99 17 karat earring. I'm just wondering if they do a good job there and whether the needles they use are sanitary or not. I'm just kinda worried about my piercing getting infected or if they don't use clean needles, I have a possible chance of getting aids...I know I'm overthinking it but well...you never know...

I worked for them it's clean and sterile but now they have 15 yr olds that never know what to do! The back of the earrings are gold plated so if you have allergies be warned! They won't tell you that. It's real gold but the backs aren't. Most fine jewelry stores can pierce your ears for you or your doctor or a tat parlor (which I strongly advise). They are licensed, clean and you will have less complications. It is done with a clean sterile needle (not gagged needs the small ones or with the sharp point earrings much like Claire's) and they look at your ear thoroughly and tell you the best options because they are professionals!

I've had my ears done twice, but never there.
Any place I've ever had mine done never used needles. They used an ear piercing gun, which is quick and not as painful as using a needle.

The ear piercing gun does not sure needles, it uses a special stud earing that has a sharp end on it. The earing goes right through and that's what you wear till your ears heal.

Also, if you look in Walmart in the Jewelry section they have a "do it yourself" ear piercing gun. It's labled "for infants", but not sure why anyone else couldn't use it. Not sure of the cost or how well it works though.

You might want to make sure your earings are made of surgical steel, hypo allergenic, to prevent allergic reactions. A lot of people are allergic to the nickle that's in most gold earings. That's why my first piercing didn't work, I had an unknown allergy to the metal.

Probably any Jewelry shop that sells earings can do this for you. You can also get the piercings done a lot cheaper at some places. I suggest shopping around, asking friends where they had theirs done, doing some research.

Make sure you clean the area well like they will tell you to so it will minimize the chance of your ears getting infected. That hurts, been there, done that.

I got each ear pieced 4 times. As follows:

1) I was five, I don't remember.
2) In the kitchen with a needle (my mom did this).
3) See 2.
4) At Claires...

These were all normal holes... no cartilage or anything... the first, I obviously don't remember... the second and the thrid were bearable....

and Claires..... HURT!!! I screamed so much a little girl (like 6ish) came up to me and said "don't worry, lady, it's not that bad and it'll be done in a second."

I don't know what hurt worse, the piercing or the humiliation of being called "lady" by a patronizing little princess in front of god and mallgoers at the ripe old age of 21.

Ten years later... I still vote NO on Claires... if I was goign to get anythign pierced again, I'd go to a professional piercer. Remember, at Claires... it's the girl behind the counter with the gun.

However, I think the likelihood of you getting AIDS is probably slim.

Claires is awesome for piercings. I don't have a lot, but all of the piercings I do have (in my ears) I have gotten there. They are very sanitary and the girls that work there do a great job. I wouldn't worry so much though...don't overtthink it or you might get there and chicken out. That's what happened to me the first time I went to get my belly button pieced (not there!). Well hope I helped!

They don't use needles, they use the piercing studs to pierce the ear with. They're a special type of earring that is thicker with a pointed end. The gun just shoots them directly into your earlobe. So you aren't getting anything that's been used on anyone else. No AIDS or any other diseases.

I've had mine done at Claire's and they did fine.

You would be better off going to a professional body piercer. Claire's and Wal-Mart employees are barley trained, and the "guns" that are used to pierce with are unsanitary. A professional piercer will use a needle that has been sanitized in an autoclave, and they also have more strict federal/local laws when it comes to sanitation. Of course, the aftercare and risk of infection is all up to you and how well you care for your piercings!

They do a very good job. Its the only place Ive ever been to get my eas pierced. They make sure they are very clean. As long as you clean your ears like they tell you they should be fine. You cant get aids because they pierce your ears with new clean ear rings. Ever thing is new and clean noone was used them before. So go ahead and get it done.

I've had mine pierced 3 times there, and three cartilage piercings. They've all been fine. Invest in the best gold earring though or they might get sore. Everything is sanitary. The earrings come from a clean sealed package and everything is cleaned before they shoot your ears.

I know some people that have gotten their ears pierced there before and it was fine. But if you are worried about getting an infection you might want to try getting 24 karat earring or sterling silver. They tend to be better for sensitive ears.

Both my children had their ears pierced at claires with no trouble whatsoever. As a mother I would never allow my children to be put in a position where their health could be affected. they follow strict guidelines and have a follow up appointment to check on the piercings
