I haven't seen him for 15 years. His wife is getting the "old crowd" together for a "surprise reunion / birthday party" for him.

How about this idea: it's time consuming but if you can get a group of people to do this, it can be a lot of fun.

Do 50 things of 50. Things like a list of his 50 favorite sayings, 50 favorite activities, 50 pennies, 50 nickels, anything crazy. Throw in a couple of keepers, but the trick here is to have a lot of fun in presenting the present.

I heard of a party one time where people were intructed to give a roll of pennies, decorated their own way, to the recipient.

Some would glue them to the object they gave, others would create something from the roll (like a bi-plane or whatever). The idea is to focus on the 50 and not on the value of the gift.

I also saw once a marquis placed on a front lawn of our neighbor's home. It said,

Honk twice today
to help us say
It sure is nifty
That Dick is fifty

Made a lot of commotion about it at the time, and I'm sure he felt loved and adored by his family.

Maybe if she did that party where everyone hides and he can't see anyone and one at a time talk to him and not give your names and say something that you did together. You know like ( do you remember the time you fell off the back porch.) example. Ive seen those parties and they are a lot of fun.

I don't know if you have any old pictures of him but it would be so nice if you could buy him a beautiful photo album and fill it with all of his fondest memories.and leave a place for the picture that you take of him for his 50th birthday. I hope this helps.

If you can afford it, a trip for two to Hawaii or Bahamas could be a wonderful gift. If you are on a tight budget, a bottle of fine wine or a very good book (depending on your frined's interest) will do. Enjoy !!!

Somthing gold! Or fake gold but the idea of gold. Like a picture of him and his wife at their wedding or them, when you first met them, in a gold picture frame.

shinny!
