After all, when we pump money into their economy / communist treasury, we are giving funds to the very government which stifles their freedoms. Perhaps it was the American trade deficit that helped fuel the infamous Tiananmen Square tank that ran down protestors and killed countless demonstrators for speaking their mind. Is any of this blood on America's hands?

Too many economists make the mistake of assuming that that economic behavior which is efficient, is also moral. I do not make that mistake.

Are we not propping up a communist regime in addition to building up the military to a world power that is highly likely to be an enemy in the future?

Interesting Question, as in WWII one sometimes has to make allies with those that aren't on the up and Up say like the former Soviet Union. However one could purchase products from say Japan but they may import there materials from China. Life is full of these questions.

Your absolutely wrong. Buying Chinese goods is very moral.
The only reason people my age had freedom in the past was because the Soviet Union was keeping the US gov at bay and busy.
The moment the USSR was gone, the US gov started destroying our rights here.
Buying Chinese products helps stop poverty there, and helps stop Facism here.
Eventually the Chinese people will be rich enough to demand their own freedom.
But the American people will never stop being too stupid to demand theirs.
I'm thinking of giving technology to Russia so that the US gov will reinstate the Constitution here.

Mao is long gone. China may be "immoral" by our modern standards, but every successful country had to start somewhere. Ask yourself this. What's worse: supporting China's economy, or not supporting China's economy by slapping "moral" standards on them and thus making sure they stay a poor nation longer.

As we have seen, immorality is a slippery issue. Considering that a lot of items are either prison labor or child labor, it seems wrong to look good on the sweat of an 8-year-old child.

no, what they are doing is immoral...we have to buy where it's cheapest, it's called a market economy, but they don't have to practice some of the more underhanded economic policies to screw everybody in our country....
