Ignorance is no guarantee of bliss. When someone says of an ignorant person that ignorance is bliss, do you not see that they are commenting ironically, and implying that the persons happiness will not last long...?

Generally speaking, knowledge is useful, it is valuable. Knowledge can be traded or bartered for other things in life, so I would say, yes, get knowledge. You will be happier with knowledge than without it.

Having said that, I must add the caveat that there are certain items of knowledge that you might prefer not to have. The sight of the body of a loved one who has died in an accident. You know they are dead, the knowledge of how they were injured and suffered will not help you be any more happy. The knowledge that your spouse is carrying on an affair with someone else; the sure and certain knowledge will not benefit you unless the suspicion is eating you alive and you simply must find out.

Note that these situations already involve the loss of happiness. I suspect that knowledge will lead to happiness in more cases than it leads to sadness, and in other cases, the blame must not be put on the knowledge.

I could never live in ignorance. Also, I could never get enough knowledge. Knowledge is not necessarily power, but it is safety in the fact, that it allows you to put two seemingly unrelated objects together and "connect the dots" and see their connecting even before others have all the facts. Also, while knowledge doesn't equate with wisdom, applied knowledge is wisdom, or knowledge that you USE is wisdom. You can have all the facts and a rope, and if you don't know how or when to use the rope, it does you no good.

It is a little knowledge that is a dangerous thing ! Happiness comes from within and is not therefore dependent on knowledge.ktf.x

Depends on your version of happy. But if it is conventional, see Spinoza's philosophy; i guarantuee you'll not find any better reason why reason leads to happiness and lack thereof leads statistically to pain, or any better explaination to your question, ANYWHERE, not in the bible or from your best friends; God mabye could equal Spinoza but not surpass in this category; perfect assessment cannot be improved upon.

2 tragedies in life not having your life's desisre or having it . Nietsche put it better but oh well. People who are happy are usually quite oblivious to this fact and thus their happiness. So the really question is do you want to be happy or be control?

I think ignorance would defintely have advantages. Think about it, most of the people that have money are complete morons and assholes. Most of us smart people are broke. Go figure.
