There are two types - front surface and back surface. A front surface mirror is a highly polished metal surface. A back surface is a piece of glass with a reflective coating (metal).

mirrors are made from glass and nickel foil backing.glass is made slow cooling of silica which is called annealing and this glaas when the nickelling is done on one side then mirrors are made!
