Because you have to actually think to answer legitimate questions and there are so few people equipped to do that

They are easy to answer, a quick way to make 2 points without having to actually think. I once tried to answer a serious question, it took me several minutes just to research the topic and then I had to figure out how to explain my answer, which took at least 2 more minutes, and I didn't even get 10 points for the best answer. I was robbed!

Because the stupid was are easier to answer. We don't have to take them seriously or think. We can two points for coming up with some flip response, or even just typing in two words, "That's stupid"

because people are not interested whether their answer matters or not in legitimate questions
they want simple questions that entertains them for a short while. They also want to answer people's questions of their interests too. it is all about influence and common interests.
