Alcohol depletes blood sugars and natural insulin. It is the fastest route to diabetic shock. One reason people get hangovers is from this. The best way to avoid a hangover is to drink a lot of natural juices, and take an aspirin and call someone else in the morning.

Drinking alchol will lower my blood sugar for about 3 hours then it spikes it so high 25 units of insulin will not bring it down! Its not worth it to a diabete to drink it, we get high just from the high BS. I think this to be true for non-diabetics too..

alcohol is a fermented form of sugar, so it would make sense that it would RAISE, not lower, the blood sugar content. But check with your doctor to be sure. Some things happen the opposite way logic says they're supposed to.

no alchol actually has sugar in it. That is why a diabetic is told to either stop consumption of it or cut it back.

my brother is diabetic & he says it raises it especially the liqours. Beer doesn't have as much sugar in it as some of the flavored liquors & mixed drinks etc. The best way to find out would be to go to a Diabetes website~ya know??

Alcohol does lower your blood sugar, or at least that is what my husband has told and he has been a paramedic for 16 years.

No, it increaes it. That is why diabetics should not drink alcohol. Plus it causes other problems with their kidneys.

No, it increases it, and almost immediately. It is empty calories and if you are diabetic, it is best to watch your alcoholic intake.
