In the US ferrets are generally legal except in Hawaii and California. However, some states or counties or even cities have their own legislature on the matter, so you better find out from your local authorities before you get one.
Some areas require a permit while others just require shots to be up to date. I know they're not legal in Washington DC.

It depends on where you are.
They are legal in all states but there are different County, Local and City ordinances that can prohibit your owning a ferret.
I rescued ferrets for 10 Years and found some pretty strange rules about them.
Mostly ferrets are not allowed in are because of a lack of knowledge.
Some people consider them rodents, which they are not.
If you live in an apartment or condo, you might not be able to own one either.

Yes, ferrets are legal more often then not. When we first got out ferret we had to get a license, but that's not needed anymore, at least not in NY. Good luck, hope you're happy with a ferret (they are so fun)!

Generally ferrets are legal. I've never heard of them not being legal. Personally, I wouldn't want one but that's my opinion.

Nope they don't look to be. they're criminal everywhere yet new york State, Hawaii and California. yet a large style of people in California have em. I have 2...and a collection of vets will see and take care of ferrets.
