I have used Tyvek and other brands. It's my opinion that Tyvek is good for what it is designed for - an air barrier, but that's all. It's over-rated and over-priced. It is NOT an water barrier, so for use under siding in an area that gets much rain (or wind-driven rain) I still use old-fashioned asphalt felt (tar paper). It's cheap, easy to install and works well. If you pay attention to detail and overlap it generously, you will get as good of a barrier as Tyvek plus it will shed any water that gets driven under the siding. Plus, it won't blind you when working around it on a sunny day.

Price of Tyvek varies.
A lot of DIY stores and lumber yards carry their own brand of house wrap. As far as I can tell, the cheap stuff does work as well as Tyvek.

check with your local lumber provider, they typically carry their won brands, has their name stamped on it for advertising too. But check with Lowes/Home Depot etc.
