I have a 12 foot by 5 foot pool about 2 feet high

Here's the correct answer. Go to your local pool supply store...Tell them what size pool you have. They will sell you a little kit that will enable you to test the chlorine level and PH levels, and they will also sell you the proper chlorine tablets, etc. to put into the water. You can go to places like Walmart and buy this stuff as well, but I prefer to go to someone who knows something about pools. With a smaller pool like this it won't take much product to keep the water clear, and thus won't cost you much.

Does it have a filter? Mine does so I use the floating thing that hold the clorine tabs and dispense it in the water and the filter helps to keep out to much debrise. I also have used a clairifier to keep the water clear looking. If you don't have a filter you might need to keep emptying the pool and refilling.

Follow whatever instructions you have been given with it. You should keep it covered when not in use... and you can use chlorine but you will need to follow the instructions to see what is safe.
