Right now Benson is #1 on the depth chart. Lovie moved Jones to #2 since TJ didn't participate in offseason mini camps

Thomas Jones will be a better selection ... he has the experience and has the better feel for the offensive scheme that Lovie Smith has established in Chicago. Cedric Benson may have a stellar career ahead of him, but this year will be a split carry season for CB and TJ, but Jones will have the majority of those hand offs. Even though CB is listed at the #1 position at RB currently, training camps can easily change around the original starting lineups that were arranged during OTAs.

Jones is looking at hitting his second consecutive 1000 yards rushing season, so he will be highly motivated to blast through the mark and show why Chicago needs to hold onto TJ for another season or two.

The Bears have one of the best RB trios in the NFL (Jones, Benson, and Adrian Peterson). Because of this I believe the they will go with a RB-by-committee solution this year.

They're all practically the same size so it's hard to figure who will be the power/goal-line back who will score most the TDs -- Benson is 5-10 and 215lbs, Jones is 5-10 and 220lbs, Peterson is 5-10 and 210lbs. Lovie Smith wants to win games so he'll likely rotate the guys to keep them fresh, this has worked well in the NFL the last few years.

If I had to pick one above the others, I'd go with Benson simply because he is their RB of of the future with a the bigger contract ($35M through 2009) and is younger at age 23. Jones, age 27, is signed through 2007 on a $10M contract.

What all this means in the fantasy world is to avoid the situation and draft a player that has a stronger hold on the #1RB position. Guys like Fred Taylor (JAX) and Curtis Martin (NYJ) should still be available when Jones and Benson are about to be drafted.

Good luck,
Jeff

If Benson Does strart at RB for the Bears .. which we do not know .. Lovie Smith isnt saying who will start .. no updates on the depth chart..
but i would want Jones to start if i was a Bears fan ... but if Benson does getting the starting job , jones will win it back .. ohhh .. 2 games into the season ..
Jones Will get more playing time .. in a fantasy league .. i would draft T. Jones over Benson. ..

I think you'll see a lot of both to start but I think Ced will probably be getting more by the end of the year.
