Yes you will enjoy your trip. No one can predict the exact weather in Sept. But whenever there is bad weather when a cruise starts the cruise ship will be diverted away from the bad weather. The worse that can happen is you end up in another port instead, or stay in a port you are in longer until the hurricane clears.

Last year we went on a cruise that had to reverse the order of the port stops because there was a hurricane there when we were supposed to be there. By the time we did get there 3 days later the weather was great. Many time cruise itineraries will be changed for a variety of reasons. You may simply end up in Cozumel a different day.

By the way I have been there and toured the island and if you miss it you will not miss anything except nice beaches but they are all over the Caribbean.

Cozumel Hurricane Season

September is still hurricane season in the Caribbean, so there's always the possibility that one would occur while you were on your cruise. However, the Captain and crew monitor weather conditions very closely and are quite able to avoid any danger. After all, they've got an expensive ship to take care of, not to mention the passengers!

We were on a cruise two years ago, when all the hurricanes were going across Florida. Our cruise was to end in Ft. Lauderdale and there were hurricane warnings, so the port was closed. People back home were a bit worried, but we got two free days of cruising and couldn't even tell there was a hurricane - until we headed into FLL; then things were a bit rocky, but still not too bad. When we stopped in Key West, we were able to "phone home", change our flights, etc and then enjoy those two extra days!

Yes. The cruise lines will always protect their guests and their mult-million dollar ships by avoiding the weather. The real risk is that if the weather is a problem, the cruise line will change your sailing itinerary (which can affect your flight arrangements, and so on). For example, if you are sailing the Western Caribbean (usually this includes Cozumel), your itinerary might change to Eastern Caribbean in the event of threatening weather.

Because of the risk of bad weather during hurricane season, if you must fly to the port city you depart from, I would advise letting the cruise line handle the air if you can afford it. No guarantees, but if your sailing is changed or delayed due to weather, you are more likely to be able to have the cruise line help you with your air without incurring huge penalties.

Call a travel agent specializing in cruises. It will not cost you extra, and they will be able to give you good advice.

No one can guarantee the weather, so if it isn't too late I would suggest buying some travel insurance. Having said that, the cruise lines have the right to modify an itinerary based on the conditions of the islands they plan on visiting. You might end up somewhere besides Cozumel if they get hit early in the season (they did take a substantial beating 2 years ago). Have fun!

cruise ships rarely miss ports due to hurricanes, however it does happen on occasion. The cruise lines are fully aware of the weather and will not put you in any danger. You may end up at another port though if a hurricane is in the area.

It will be safe...but due to hurricanes your ship may have to detour or you will not be able to dock where you were planning...believe me, I know about Cozumel in the hurricane season, my flight out to Houston was delayed for two days during the month of September 2005 (hurricane Katrina season).
