As far as food storage items go low moisture foods with a long shelf life are great to buy in bulk. Things like dry beans, pastas, grains of any kind, flour, sugar, rice etc... There is a great website for stuff like this www.beprepared.com

I get things that I use a lot of and won't go bad. Flour, sugar, paper goods (paper towels, napkins,toilet paper), cleaning things (like soap, dish soap, laundry soap), Chocolate chips, water, razors, plastic silverware and plastic plates.
